Vivien Leigh takes my breath away. Gone With The Wind is on. What a film. I love Oscar weekend. They play the best shit on cable. I just watched Shakespeare In Love for the second time. Good God, is that film well written. Right after Scarlet says "tomorrow is another day." The Sting will be on. Hot damn. Movies, movies, movies. I know I haven't been writing in this sucker very much and movies have a bit to do with it. That's all I can say right now. Damn, every close up of Vivien Leigh truly leaves me breathless. I had such a crush on her when I was young. Of course, I still do. Clark Gable, tough guy. Tough guy with legendary bad breath. Ah well. Gotta take the bad with the good.

I promised that I would write more about SXSW. Let's go to Thursday night, shall we? Well, I did two gigs that night. The first one was with my new band, named of all things, Wammo. God, I hate bands that are named after some egocentric asshole but if the shoe fits… Anyway, all that aside, WE ROCKED! Yes, it was one hell of a show but what do you expect when 8 ˝ Souvenirs is backing you up? We had a second guitarist named, J.T., who did the heavy guitar stuff. It was all good, my little droogies. I can't wait to play more gigs like that.

Hamell On Trial was next. It was his first gig in Austin since his accident and he blew the roof off the place. Hamell is the bomb and one of the best people I have ever met. It just about made me cry to see him play again. Yee haw. Welcome back, buddy.

The Spankers played after Hamell. It wasn't the best show we've ever done but it was still fun. Until, for some ridiculous reason, THEY SHUT DOWN THE BAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SHOW! You can't believe how pissed I was. Not that I couldn't get a drink, hell, I had beer on stage but what about the audience? They were fucked and that really pissed me off. The paid their hard earned dough to put their butts in those seats and the least thing the establishment can do is give them the opportunity to enjoy a cold one while they watch the show. I got so riled up just now, I had to go get myself a beer out of the fridge.

Okay, Friday night I went to Japan night. Japan night is always one of my favorite SXSW nights. Rock and roll ain't dead, my friends, it just moved to the Far East. My favorite two bands of that evening were Jerry Lee Phantom and Bleach. Bleach was a power trio of three little girls who made one gigantic noise. Jerry Lee Phantom was a fantastic punk/power pop band with an amazing female keyboardist. Check 'em out kids, live a little. That pretty much sums up "south by" for me. Nobody's beating down my door to put my record out. Ah well, just gonna have to do it myself.
