Ten hours in a van yesterday, driving from Switzerland to Holland, right across Germany. Ok, a little about the gigs. The club in Rubigen (ok, I don't know the name, it's not posted on the Spanker website) was amazing. I thought that the Garage in Bermingham, Alabama was the coolest club in the world but I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Aha! I just found the name of the club, drum roll please, ladies and gentlemen, the coolest club in the world is... Mühle Hunziken! Yes, my friends, it's the most baddass bar that I have ever been in and we all know that I've been in a lot of bars. The stage and dancefloor are set up like an opera house, with open air balconies that rise up four floors. Everything there is art. The barstools are sculptures, you cannot look in any direction without seeing something completely amazing, merry-go-round horses, giant Santa Claus boots, carved wooden policemen, an actual dog skeleton, statues of pop culture icons - Bart Simpson, Darth Vader, Marilyn Monroe, etc... There was a tiny bar on the third floor behind a locked door. The owner opened it up for us, he had taken the actual bar from a french brothel and built a little room around it. Very close to this tiny room was a wall sized machine that looked like a giant Werlitzer jukebox, covered with instruments: two saxaphones, drums, claves, temple blocks, two accordians. The owner threw a switch and the entire thing came to life and began to play. A huge player piano style - no man band. It was beautiful. I've just been informed that it's time to go exchange some money, so I gotta go. The adventure continues.
