I picked up my friend Daphne from the airport and we toodled around town for a while. Had some shrimp and beef in boiling vinegar from Saigon Restaurant, a dish you must try. Then we went to my house and she watched me clean up. I can only do housework if I have somebody to talk to while I'm doing it. Don't ask me why. My father says that I'm retarded in the domestic part of my brain. True that. We watched some of Hard Core Logo, went to pick up Val from work, hooked up with Etin and Big Poppa E and went downtown to go see They Might Be Giants (who kept calling They Might Be Geeks). It was gonna be a geek night for sure. The first band was Muckafurgeson. They were pretty cool, they switched instruments every song and pulled it off quite well. I traded a Faster Than The Speed Of Suck for one of their discs. I also bought a pair of Muckafurgason panties for Val. They are the only band besides the Spankers that I've seen sell panties. Good work guys.

The next band was Ok Go from Chicago and that's exactly what I wanted them to do by the second song. Ok Go. There's nothing worse than geeks that think they're cool. The geeks who know that they are geeks are the ones who rock.

Finally They Might Be Giants hit the stage with a full band. They used to be just two guys playing to backing tracks but now it's the whole shebang. I pulled my ear plugs out of my head and tested their volume. This band has it's shit together. The music was full and rich without being so loud that an old man like me has to plug up to stand it. My hat is off to the band leaders and their sound man. My favorite part of the show was when John With Glasses (both of the original guys are named John, rumor has it that when they first toured, the roadie and the tour manager were also named John and their favorite thing to say was "I don't know, ask John.) anyway, John With Glasses went to a radio on stage, scrolled down the radio dial and the band played along with whatever tune or commercial that came on. It was brilliant. As was the drum solo where John With Glasses did an automated phone operator voice over while the drummer switched his style - "For Gene Krupa, press one. For John Bonham, press two, etc…" Great stuff.
